While I was on an amazing vacation with my husband, he made the comment that he and his friend (who I will allow to remain anonymous only because of my gracious spirit and forgiving heart:) had surmised that women just weren't as funny as men. This is what he backed his statement up with.
1) He and his friend never laughed as hard around women as they did around men.
Really, I wanted to slap my husband for even entertaining such a chauvinistic idea. Gosh...I still smart just thinking about the statement. I've surmised that men think they are funnier then women because
1) Women laugh at all of men's jokes in order to spare their feelings. Seriously, girls, can you remember going on dates and just laughing because you didn't want to sit through an awkward silence after a flop of a joke? I'm sure you can commiserate with that situation and many other types of similar ones that don't involve dating. Men just aren't as kind in this regard. A female tells a flop of a joke, and the man will not provide any courtesy laughs (unless maybe she is his boss). Thus, I have explained why men have super inflated ego's regarding their humor! I guess it's all our fault!
I wrote this post, not because I want to bash men (I love my hubbie to death). I just wanted to clear up this misconception that men seem to have about humor. It seems to me that both sexes are really funny. Men DO make me laugh, but never as hard as my girlfriends make me laugh. I don't think ANY man has made me laugh so hard that my cheeks hurt, and my abbs felt as though I had just worked them for 10 minutes. Therefore, we're both funny! Women's humor just appeals more to women and men's humor to men-Of COURSE. Whewww...I'm glad I cleared that up.
